23.11.2018

On November 9, François Bouché, President of VALGO and Pavle Radulovic, Minister of Tourism and Sustainable Development in Montenegro, formalized the launch of the rehabilitation works of the Bijela shipyard.

Following the international tender launched by Montenegro, VALGO has been selected to pilot the rehabilitation of the site at the heart of the Kotor Bay, a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. A project supported by the World Bank, which participates in the development and preservation of one of the most impressive Mediterranean fjords, wealth of this Montenegrin region, as well as support for the country’s tourism and economic activity.

VALGO, familiar with complex operations of depollution, asbestos removal and remediation of industrial sites, consolidates its expertise and know-how with this major project. The company is committed, on a site of 21 months, to treat 150,000 tonnes of waste, the equivalent of 15 Eiffel towers, spread over 1.7 hectares, thanks to its proven experience. Most of the waste from this site is residues from boat sanding operations and polluted soils, the evacuation and / or treatment of which will make the site viable for future use. Other sensitive waste consists of asbestos, scrap metal, miscellaneous OIW, as well as hydrocarbon derivatives. VALGO is in charge of the first phase of depollution of the site with the management and the treatment of the primary sources of pollution.

To carry out the works, a team of 35 people was mobilized, in collaboration with local companies. VALGO experts will accompany Montenegrin experts from local companies in this project through the training and transmission of their know-how in the field of pollution control of polluted sites and soils. The creation of these jobs and the establishment of partnerships between VALGO and the local actors make it possible to work for the economic development of Montenegro.
